Snow Day activities

It is currently the middle of July (My favorite time of year), but I wrote this on a snow day last year but never posted it. So, in preparation for winter, here it is. (Otherwise I would have forgotten again and I’d end up never posting it).

Outside:

Build a snow sculpture (A “sand” castle, a chair, a heart, a smiley face, insect/animal, or a basic snowman)

Go sledding (If you don’t have a hill, make a snow bank and shape it into a ramp.)

Build your own sled! Make several prototypes and see which style works best.

Make a birdfeeder

Fill a spray bottle with water and food coloring and paint the snow!

Build an igloo (Or an awesome snow fort)

Classics (Snow angels, catch snowflakes on your tongue, snowball fight, etc.)

Capture the snowball (Like capture the flag..but with snowballs)

Freeze tag

Hunger games (Make a “cornucopia” with snacks and extra hats and stuff, and you’re “out” when you’re hit with a snowball. Or make up your own rules!) This could also be altered for an inside version.

Inside:

Stay in your jammies

Watch movies

Read books

Take a bunch of big blankets and make an awesome, cozy bed to take a nap.

Play a board/card game

Color

Make your own coloring sheets using pens/sharpies and color it in

Make up your own stories (Even write them down and make your own family story book)

Paint your nails

Try new hairstyles

Bake something! Get creative and try something new.

Make something. (Homemade play dough, bouncy balls, silly putty, etc.)

Using marshmallows make your own snowmen, decorate them, and eat them!

Make paper snowflakes/origami

Learn to knit/crochet. If you don’t have any hooks/needles, learn to arm knit/finger knit!

Find some cool science experiments to try

Simple games like hangman, tic-tac-toe, simon says, etc.

Build a fort

Roll up a bunch of socks and have an indoor snowball fight

Play capture the flag inside

Hide and Seek (Fun options are hide and seek in the dark, or you have to crawl on your hands and knees, or make up your own rules!)

Make a dance video/music video

Obstacle course

Scavenger hunts

Easter egg hunt (Maybe with snowballs? A.K.A. rolled up socks)

Pretend to ski/snowboard (Make a course with jumps and spins and everything.)

Put on slippery socks and pretend to ice skate

Charades

Musical chairs
